No One Is Ever Too Old For Toys

She was so homesick. Seeing her sisters on a daily basis made things a bit better, but she would have rather been at home with her mother.

Narcissa sat in the Slytherin common room, playing with the small doll that she had brought with her from home. The doll was one that had been given to her on her third birthday, and it had rarely left her side since. She felt the cushions of the sofa shift and looked up. The blonde boy that she had met her first day was sitting next to her with a small grin on his face. "That's a pretty doll you have there," he said in a tone that made Narcissa unsure if he was being rude or if he was really complimenting her doll.

"I've had it since childhood," Narcissa said proudly, curling the doll's ringlets around her fingers. Bella had already poked fun of her for bringing it, and she didn't want to deal with this boy and any harsh words he brought with him.

"You know, I still have a teddy bear my father gave to me somewhere," he said, moving his hand to take the doll from her. "My mother took it from me the first year I attended Hogwarts because she claimed I was too old for toys."

Narcissa wasn't quite sure what to say. Her mother wasn't the most loving woman in the world, yet she never decided when the girls were 'too old' for their childhood toys. She watched him look the doll over, turning it over and over in his hands, playing with it's blonde ringlets.

That night Narcissa flew through her trunk for the bear that she had also brought with her. Finally finding it shoved in the bottom corner under a sock she wrapped it in one of her handkerchiefs and tied up the small package with one of her hair ribbons.

Cautiously she snuck into the boy's dorms and found Lucius's room. She took one last look around to make sure that no one was watching, and placed the package on his bed.

"What's that, mate?"

Lucius looked over at his companion. "No clue."

After a long Quidditch practice they had finally stumbled dead tired into the dorms close to midnight.

He picked up the small bundle and untied the ribbon. Tucked neatly inside was a small worn teddy bear and a note.

No one is ever too old for toys. I hope this makes up for your bear that your mother took from you.

"Gift from one of your many admirers?" his friend asked jokingly.

Lucius smiled and tucked the bear and handkerchief under his pillow. "You could say that."
